Suture
Microsurgical
suture is depicted below. A 9-0
suture is set near a penny for a
comparison in size. Smaller suture
of 10-0 and 11-0 are also used, but
can't be seen well with our 2.5
megapixel digital camera.

Microscope
The
operating microscope has binocular
lenses for a surgeon and assistant that
sit directly across from one
another. Each binocular lens
system is independent. The
fiberoptic cable supplies light to
illuminate the field. The video
cameral allows the nursing staff to see
the operative field on a television
display to monitor the procedure.

Instruments
A typical
set of microsurgical forceps, scissors
and needle driver are shown below to the
left. To the right are
microvascular clamps. A ruler is
set above for scale - the top scale is
centimeters and the bottom scale is
inches. Instruments handles are
not made very small so they can be
easily manipulated. The tips of
the instruments however, are fine enough
to handle small vessels, nerves and the
suture shown above.
