Implantable Doppler Insertion Technique

The implantable Doppler cord has been fixed to the skin and the probe with cuff is brought into the operating field with a forceps.  Above, a muscle flap draining vein is visible against the microsurgical background.

The probe is placed against the draining vein by circling the cuff around the vein.  The probe can be proximal or distal to the anastomotic site.  In this case it is placed distal.

The cuff is secured around the vein with a hemoclip.  It is secure enough so that the probe stays against the outer wall of the vein, but not so loose that the probe would slide proximal or distal or away from the vein.

The excess cuff can be trimmed with a micro scissors.  The Doppler can be connected to the control box and monitoring is begun.
