Background:
Professor Balakrishnan is an internationally renowned hand, peripheral nerve, brachial plexus, and microsurgeon. He is Emeritus Professor of Tamil Nadu Medical University and Medical Director of RIGHT Hospitals.
He is a past president and present manageing trustee of the Indian Society for Surgery of the Hand, the Indian Society for Microsurgery, and the Brachial Plexus Group of India.

He is also a past president of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India and is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by Tamil Nadu Medical University (2012),

Dr. Balakrishnan is the recipient of the Sake of Honour Award by the Indian Society of Peripheral Nerve Surgery (2016), and the IFSSH Pioneer in Hand Surgery Award (2019).

He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed papers, 17 textbooks and is the editor of Volume II of the Textbook of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
